Field Days

The diary of future field days along with location maps are listed in every HOGS newsletter. Non members are very welcome to come along to field days as a ‘try before you buy’ sort of experience.

We meet for BYO lunch at 12 noon before the field day really starts at 1pm sharp. There is usually a background session followed by a property tour and/or practical activity. At 3pm we stop for afternoon tea and a raffle before winding up.

Here are the next field days (further details coming):

August 14: AGM, Hunter Wetlands, Sandgate
Annual reports and elections. 2010 will be special to celebrate our 30th anniversary.

Our guest speaker is Andrew Dempster from the Slow Food Movement
The meeting will be in the classroom at the Wetlands and you need to advise the staff on entry that you are going to the HOGS meeting.

September 11: Tilligery Habitat, Tanilba Bay

The Habitat is a State Reserve Trust that is staffed entirely by volunteers.
We have arranged to have a talk and tour.  Here are a few points showing what the Habitat offers

  • The chance to view koalas in their native habitat
  • Guided walks and eco-tours, with skilled koala spotters and bush tucker orientation;
  • A native nursery, filled with plants local to the area for people wanting to create a home for wildlife in their own backyards
  • Local Arts and Crafts

October 9th: A visit to Jane Tudor’s small farm at Stanhope.
Come and see Jane’s permaculture mandala garden, Dorper sheep and chickens.

Full details of the locations are in the newsletter or you can contact our Field Day Coordinator Sue Anderson by selecting the Field Day Coordinator on our contact form via contact us.
