Charlie Carp

From July 2010, HOGS will be purchasing Charlie Carp fish emulsion concentrate in bulk and selling it at very reduced rates to members at field days. All you need to do is bring along empty containers (one litre, two litre bottles, for instance). more »

Lake Macquarie Farmers Market discussions

Lake Macqaurie City Council is hosting some discussion sessions that aim to assist with planning a regular Farmers' Market. Council wants to get to know growers around our area who might be interested in selling and similarly, residents who would be interested in buying. more »

Gloucester Farmers Market opens

Gloucester Farmers Market will have its first market day on Saturday 13th February, and then the 2nd Saturday of every month. Many stalls are already booked for the market, but they are looking for more suppliers of fresh fruit and veg or any produce that fits in with Farmers Market guidelines. more »

Warners Bay Community Garden needs your help

A committed group of local residents have spent the last 12 months working with locals and staff at Lake Macquarie City Council to establish a community garden in Bunya Park, right where the new Red Bluff cycleway will start. Councillors will be voting on the garden soon, after a special briefing on 22nd February this year. Now is the time to show your support and get a "yes" vote, because there will be no opportunity to appeal a "no" vote! more »

October 2009 Field Day

October field day has been rescheduled -- now Saturday October 10th at Ash Island. We will inspect the Kooragang community garden at Ash Island with lots of helpful hints and advice from Ern Hardes. See all the spring planting and get lots of ideas for your own garden. This is a day especially useful for members who are new to organic gardening. more »

Slow Food website listing

Slow Food Hunter Valley are currently overhauling their website and are offering HOGS members who are growers on a commercial scale, or have produce to sell, a free listing. It will list availability, farm gate sales etc and list them as a member of HOGS (such as Mark at Purple Pear). more »

Catchment Day 2009 cancelled

Hunter Wetlands have advised that their Catchment Day on the 18th of October has been cancelled, due to lack of sponsorship and an already full programme. They may have a sustainability day around June next year but nothing is confirmed yet. more »
